Purpose of this page

Communicate course-related information to students in MSCS 210-1001 Computer Networks II offered in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at Marquette University.

Course description

This course focuses on the common protocols typically associated with the TCP/IP stack. It begins by reviewing the lower layers along with the UDP and TCP transport layers. This is to provides a bridge to understanding the socket interface used for application development. Typical protocols and topics discussed include: DNS, Telnet, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, HTTP, and Security.

Course goal

The goal of this course is twofold. First, to develop an understanding of the foundational concepts of the application through lecture and discussion; and second, to gain a deeper understanding and an appreciation of the implementation requirements of these applications through code development and/or experience with them.
